How we calculate this

Medivet says puppies typically have their first vaccinations at 6 to 8 weeks and their second 2 to 4 weeks later, at 10 to 12 weeks. Most can go out around 2 weeks after that.

The Kennel Club says many vets recommend yearly boosters. We put the first booster a year after the second jab.

First jab = birth date + 6 to 8 weeksSecond jab = birth date + 10 to 12 weeksFirst walks = birth date + 12 weeks at the earliest

Questions people ask

When can my puppy go outside?

Usually about 2 weeks after their second vaccination, typically at 12 to 14 weeks old. You can carry them out before then to get used to sights and sounds, but keep them off the ground and away from unknown dogs.

How many vaccinations does a puppy need?

Usually two, 2 to 4 weeks apart, then a booster a year later. Some puppies need a third, depending on the vaccine and their vet.

Can my puppy go in my garden before their jabs?

Usually yes, if no unvaccinated dogs or foxes use it. Ask your vet, as advice can depend on local risks.
